Judging for the 2006 Design Competition took place in the Chicago area in March by judges recruited from the aluminum extrusion industry, academia, and the trade press. Seventy-four entries were received from professional engineers, designer, manufacturers, and students around the world for this year's competition; forty-three of the entries were from students representing eight different colleges and universities. For the first time in the history of the competition, the Grand Prize across all categories was awarded to a student entry.
