Value-Added Processes 158 VA A Safer Alternative to Chromate Passivation for Aluminum Pretreatment Nabil Zaki -- SurTec International, GmbH, USA A new conversion coating passivation process using low concentrations of safe trivalent chrome, Cr(III), compounds is introduced. Resultant properties include high corrosion resistance on high copper and silicon alloys, low electrical contact resistance, and excellent paint adhesion, applicable to military, aerospace, construction, electrical and electronics industries. The process is described and performance compared to alternatives; field applications in the aluminum extrusion industry are presented. |
