Chemical Depth Profiling of Anodized Extrusion Surfaces Using rf-GD-OES

Thomas Björk -- Corrosion and Metals Research Institute, Sweden;
Jan-Olov Nilsson -- SAPA Technology, Sweden

Anodized extrusions are chemically characterized, comparing common techniques for surface analysis, such as glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GD-OES), x-ray diffraction, (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), thickness evaluation, and hardness indentation. Concentration versus depth of elements is examined, variances with anodizing parameters, and analytical response. Chemical properties of anodized layers produced with technically relevant anodizing parameters are described.
