Flexible Extrusion of 3D-Curved Profiles for Structural Components

Dirk Becker -- Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction, Germany;
Dr. Marco Schikorra, Dr. A. Erman Tekkaya -- University of Dortmund, Germany

Curved profile extrusion (CPE) does not influence cross-section deformation, reduced formability, or residual stresses in curved profiles. The profile line’s 3D-geometry eliminates using a plane surface to support the strand in the run-out. A flexible profile support prevents deformation, bending or twisting. External forces on material flow, and gravity compensation to increase profile accuracy are discussed. Innovative 3D-curved profile manufacturing is presented.
