Extrusion/Die Theoretical 078 TH Indirect Extrusion of Rapidly Solidified Al-Base Alloy Powder/Flakes and Deformation Behavior of the Extrudate Soeren Mueller and Klaus Mueller -- R&D Center of Extrusion, TU Berlin, Germany; Gas atomization and melt spinning are rapid solidification techniques for preparing new alloy compositions/structures. Rapidly solidified dispersion-strengthened Al-Ni-Mn-Cu alloy powder/flakes of nominal composition prepare rods via hot indirect extrusion. Powder/flakes are compacted into billet shape by cold isostatic pressing, preheated at 623°K-693°K, and indirect extruded. Powder/flakes’ comparisons due to extrusion forces are presented. Microstructure investigation examines mechanical properties at room and elevated temperatures. |
