Application of QForm Program for Improvement of the Die Design and Profile Extrusion Technology

Nikolai Biba, Sergey Stebunov, and Alex Vlasov -- QuantorForm Ltd., Russia

The Finite Element (FE) program QForm provides profile extrusion simulation specifics. Extrusion process for hollow/solid profiles is considered using non-steady-state and steady-state solutions. QForm analyzes stress-strain state in assembled dies and investigates die geometry influence, bearing length, billet/die temperatures, punch velocity on material flow, extrusion strain/temperature, and final product shape. Practical results for determining optimal temperature and velocity for hollow profile complex shape extrusions are illustrated.
