Process Engineering Modeling: A Ticket to Higher Efficiency in Alumium Extrusion

Wojciech Z. Misiolek -- Institute for Metal Forming, Lehigh University, USA;
Richard M. Kelly -- Werner Co., USA

Increased computer power/speed now model and evaluate technological advances in concert, yielding higher gains contingent on accuracy refinements in material characterization. University laboratory studies, their industrial application, and implementing results into engineering software are presented. Future collaboration between software developers, researchers in metallurgical laboratories, and practicing engineers on the extrusion floor are suggested, yielding important tools for manufacturing, research, and training personnel.
