The Case-Based System for Aluminum Extrusion Die Design in a Context of Integrated Design

Chaiwat Noomtong and Suthep Butdee -- Thai-French Innovation Center (TFIC), Integrated Manufacturing System Research Center (IMSRC), King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, Thailand

Serge Tichkiewitch -- G-SCOP Laboratory, Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG), France

A case-based die design system uses knowledge-based methods for collecting experiences in a computer system. Engineering knowledge is captured from text and experience data documented from factory experts. Case-based system results explain knowledge acquisition, representation, indexing, matching, retrieving, storing, and adaptation. The system is successfully tested during aluminum die design and manufacturing, reducing design time and providing good extruded products.
