Extrusion/Die Practical 051 PR Quality Issues of Hollow Extrusions for Aerospace Applications Pradip K. Saha -- The Boeing Company, USA Type-II hollow extrusions are used in secondary structural/nonstructural aerospace components. Quality issues are presented in case studies. Proper metallurgical bonding at the seam is critical for seam joint bond strength, to avoid cracks, joint separation, and fabrication or assembly-line failures. Quality measurement systems help manufacture type-II hollow extrusions as defect-free as possible. An analytical model calculating transition zone length is highlighted. |
