The Die Does Not Make the Extrusion

Paul Robbins -- CASTOOL, Canada
Martin Jarrett -- ALCOA, USA

The die is central to extrusion. Die function efficiency is influenced by various components within the interconnected extrusion production process. Until alloy enters the die, production process components facilitate and enhance die function. The extent by which extrusion system parts aid die function depends upon effective temperature control. Press results are discussed, including components’ influence on die function, and importance of thermal control.
