Implementation of Six Sigma Methodology into the Extrusion Die Shop

John Funai -- WES-Tooling, USA

For die shops to maximize efficiency, production rates, and die reliability, and minimize tooling costs, die shop personnel need systematic problem-solving and improvement techniques. Significant aspects of Six Sigma methodology are implemented into the extrusion die shop, where, if used sensibly, rewards are tremendous. Real-life examples of some Six Sigma projects are reviewed; barriers, successes, and savings are discussed.
