The aluminum extrusion industry fundamentally presents financial-based type-2 globalization characteristics, and will experience a price-based type-1c globalization effect from low-cost exporting countries. The extrusion industry’s competitive system and structural changes are analyzed in the advanced economies impacted by globalization. Competition scenarios are developed and extruder actions proposed to meet globalization’s challenges based on foreign trade models and contingent strategies chosen by Western extruders.
