Can Quality Production be Achieved Consistently on All Shifts?

Randy Long -- Bon L. Aluminum, USA

Consistent quality production runs from shift to shift and die to die are an industry-wide challenge. Tools and commitment to high standards are discussed. Obstacles include: poor start-up production plan, billet temperature control, die performance, personnel changes, etc. Inconsistencies concerning mechanical properties, die failures, shortages, premature die life, improper die correction, failed deliveries, poor customer satisfaction, and high internal scrap are reviewed.
