Extrusion Container Technology from Yesterday Until Tomorrow

Wilfried Kortmann -- S&C Maerer GmbH, Germany

Isothermal extrusion demand requires uniform container temperature over the length and between top and bottom. Zone heating and even cooling systems inside the container enable press users to optimize extrusion temperature, pressure and speed. Container development requires adequate working conditions and control systems. Breakdown/failure scenarios and avoidance strategies are presented. Highlighted technologies’ advantages/disadvantages provide decision support for optimum container design selection.
