Second Generation Combination Quenches: Improving the Theory and the Practice

David Jenista -- Granco Clark, Inc., USA

Combination air/water quench units process water-quenched profiles and air-cooled alloys. Combining both media into a single footprint makes these units attractive. ET-04’s paper “The Ultimate Quench” reformatted profile sensitivity as a function of temperature, detailing application in high-performance water quench. This theory’s application to combination quench design is demonstrated. Second-generation combination quench design is shown to achieve better performance and improved capability.
