O2-Enhanced Combustion for Aluminum Melting Furnaces

In aluminum melting furnaces, O2-enhanced combustion increases melt rate and reduces melt energy costs. Air Liquide and ACI developed/implemented 100% oxy burners, and variable ratio air/oxy burners. Air Liquide’s experience with O2 combustion installations in well-charged reverbs, direct-charged reverbs, and rotary aluminum melting furnaces is presented. Burner type selection criteria are discussed. Installation results are summarized, and O2 combustion technology is reviewed.
