Improved Hydrogen Measurement in Molten Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys

Molten aluminum and aluminum alloys’ hydrogen content is measured in-line using Alscan, Telegas, or Notorp equipment, or by laboratory methods, LECO Nitrogen Carrier Fusion or Hot Vacuum Subfusion Extraction (HVE). Alscan in-line measurement technique has bias relative to other methods, producing higher hydrogen measurements. Bias extent depending upon ambient humidity and temperature is discussed. Equipment modifications are extensively tested/compared with Notorp and LECO.
