ET '08 Offers a World of Ideas Extrusion Showcase |
|
Excellence in Extruded Aluminum Design More than just a display: see, touch, and learn about actual innovative applications for aluminum extrusions and designs for semifabricated and finished products at ET's Extrusion Showcase located on the Expo floor. Discover how professionals and students have tackled tough design challenges using extruded aluminum. Some of the items showcased are from NASA; many are entries from the ET Foundation's International Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. NASA/Boeing: Extruded aluminum handrail assembly from the International Space Station (ISS). There are hundreds of handrails covering the surface of the ISS, each serving the critical purpose of providing a place for the astronauts to hold on when they venture outside on a space walk, as well as a place for tether lines that attache to crew and equipment for ongoing tests and repairs. Go Trailer: The lightweight aluminum extruded GO Trailer offers an easy-to-tow easy-to-setup travel option that transforms from a sleek, low-profile trailer into a secure, comfortable camping home-away-from-home, complete with weather-tight gear storage. The extruded framing works with intelligent suspension geometry. Photo at right courtesy of SylvanSport.
Terra Group: Gorlov helical turbine (GHT) from Lucid Energy Technologies is a water turbine that does not need a dam or deep water to generate clean hydroelectric power thanks to the extruded aluminum blades and spokes having a helical design. Conservatek: Omni-Hub Universal Space Frame System is a lightweight aluminum structure that is quite versatile, allowing for endless design possibilities. Photo at left courtesy of Conservatek.
Segway Inc: Segway x2 Golf uses extruded aluminum tubing in this rugged all-terrain version of the personal transportation device. The powder-coated corrosion-free extruded aluminum handlebar framing, crossbars, spacers, and golf bag carrier offer a lightweight, durable, eco-friendly product. Photo at right courtesy of Segway. Vistawall Group: ICR-250 Thermal Composite Ribbon Window framing system features extruded aluminum members that are products of Vistawall's green building initiative. The products shown above are only a sampling of what you can expect to see at the Extrusion Showcase located in the center of the ET Expo. Additional Showcase items highlighting the effectiveness of extruded aluminum include a variety of engineered, structural, and transportation products, including those from both the professional and student classes submitted to the International Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. |
